Malu (b. 1998, Rio de Janeiro) is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, video, performance, sound, and haptic technologies. She holds a BFA from Central Saint Martins and an MFA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths University. Her practice explores the relationship between technology and magic, and she is in a constant state of system-synthesis and lore-building.
During her studies in computing, she developed a theatrical approach to sound and interactive systems. This led to the creation of a character named Sally, a cyber-alchemist who uses custom-built tools and exohearts—devices that connect physical sensors to digital sonics—in a series of performances called Rites of Integration, which explore transformation through embodied interaction.
Currently, she is based in New York City and working on a new video series titled WYRMDIE. The title combines "wyrm," meaning ancient dragon, and "die," a block of semiconducting material used in electronic circuits. The series follows cyber-dragons and their misadventures across mythic-digital landscapes.
